The second step in reading your Human Design chart is understanding your Type and Strategy. Your Type (Generator, Projector, Manifestor, Reflector) is determined by specific configurations of the centers in your chart, and it’s a fundamental part of your design. Each person has a maximum of 26 activated gates (one for each of the 13 planets in the unconscious and then the conscious charts). Your first instinct might be to find a list of the gates and write down each of yours (that’s what I did on like day 2 of knowing human design). An easier strategy to approach your gates would be to sit with them one at a time and meditate or journal on it.

The main activity of this center is mental processing, conceptualizing, and fact finding and association. The 9 Energy Centers in the Human Design body graph show us the energies that are our own and also where we are subject to conditioning. Only Manifestors can have Ego Authority, which means that their Authority comes from the Will or Heart Center connection to the Throat. People with Ego Authority do not need to wait for anything before they make decisions. The only thing they must do is make sure that their energy is up to the task. The energy in the Will Center works in cycles that pulse on and off.

In a perfect world, the Manifestors initiate the projects, the Generator (MGs) build the projects, the Projectors guide the Generators, and the Reflectors let them know how they’re doing. Many people have shared that where I was is a powerful spiritual place, like an energetic vortex, and it is here that I was first introduced to Human Design. For instance, Gate 10, situated in the G Center, is often linked with the energy of self-love and behavior. If activated, it can indicate a person’s journey toward authentic self-expression and empowerment. So as you await the arrival of your client you ground your energy and you center your mind and attitude. You let go of your own worries and personal thoughts in service to another. A defined center in this area denotes consistent emotional waves, whereas an undefined center can mean heightened emotional sensitivity and empathy. The Throat Center, for example, is connected with communication and manifestation. A defined Throat Center indicates a consistent way of expressing oneself, while an undefined Throat may mean the individual adapts their communication style based on their environment.
If the top left arrow (digestion) is facing left, you process information actively and do well with structure. If it is facing right, you have a more intuitive, adaptive way of digesting information. Manifesting generators struggle when they try to fit themselves into boxes or engage in tasks that don’t bring them joy. It details our baseline programming by showing us our gifts, where we get energy from, our responses when we are aligned and not, and so much more.
The customer’s and staff’s designs blend together to create a collective aura. Emotionally undefined children are sometimes labeled as “dramatic.” Yet, what they are simply doing is absorbing all the emotional energy from those around them and acting it out. I often see emotionally undefined children labeled as “disturbed” when they are, in fact, acting out the emotional health of their family or even the emotional drama present in their parent’s marriage. The Teacher is here to teach whatever they’ve experienced in life. They are considered karmic mirrors and are often subject to the projections of others. Through relationships with Line 5 Profiles, others discover what they need to heal the most within themselves.
A person can learn a lot about Human Design in general, and their Human Design specifically, by reading books by leading authors and gleaning articles on the internet. Most of my clients are amazed at how accurate these Life Themes resonate with them. It is critical to understand that we don’t read these descriptions and then march out and ‘do’ our Life Purpose. We can’t help but ‘become’ our Life Purpose as we follow the guidance and wisdom of our own designs. Our life purpose is heavily influenced by the qualities of the Gate of our Conscious Sun as well as our Conscious Earth and Unconscious Sun/Earth. The qualities of these 4 Gates are synthesized into a rich tableau.
In our example, you can see that the planet glyph is for Jupiter. When you know the Gate names, you can then read this as, “The Gate of Revolution Line 4 is in Unconscious Jupiter; The Gate of Spirit and Abundance Line 3 is in Conscious Jupiter. Consider what you know about their Design and what you need to do to ‘speak their language’. That was 40 years ago and I have spent a lifetime working to be the best communicator I can be. Take the time to develop your own unique expression of Human Design concepts. Sure, there are labels and keywords that should always stay constant. But how you describe and transmit the substance of the concepts will be more powerful when it comes straight from you. Our society and its messaging has made so many people feel bad about themselves.
They often start something with their passion and then pull the exact people towards that project. It helps you tune back into your body, back into your nervous system, and learn to listen to the answers your body is giving you rather than society (your inner authority). It helps you recognize where you are prone to conditioning and outside influences and where you have inherent energy and direction.
